Harry Potter Fic Recs

fair warning: with very few exceptions, Harry Potter is not the fandom I go to for “good” fic. Harry Potter is where I go when I want to do the literary equivalent of licking coke off a night club floor, or maybe eat twenty-five consecutive bags of potato chips. My recs reflect that: these are not good fics, but these are fun fics.

Abandon [AO3] [ff.net]
Harry is abandoned in muggle London. Tom Riddle finds him. It’s not good. Nothing about this fic is good. I’ve read it seven times. Harry/Tom, complete.

A Black Comedy [ff.net]
Some parts Did Not Age Well, but overall this is a deeply hilarious fic. Harry follows Sirius into the alternate universe on the other side of the arch in the Department of Mysteries. Marauders 2.0 is born. Gen, allusions to a very great quantity of fade-to-black sex nonwithstanding. Complete.

A Long Time Ago [AO3]
Harry Potter is thrown back in time to the founder’s era, shipping happens, Slytherin is there. Weirdly similar to Gelosaþ in Écnesse, but a better version of it, with meatier chapters, more evocative imagery, and better characterizations. Peppered with word choice errors, though. Harry/Salazar, ongoing but updates regularly.

A Life of Smoke and Silvered Glass [AO3]
The exception to the "not good, but fun" rule; this fic is very good, but not exactly fun. Part of the boy with the scar series, it's the Snape redemption arc we deserved, where he'd been a double-agent from the start. Desperately heartbreaking, because Snape isn't a bastard and nothing changes. Gen, complete.

I have this strange love for Harry Potter that never went away, lol. I used to read so much for that fandom, but then Transformers happened and it ate my heart >.>

Even with all the shit rowling and warner brothers have pulled recently, I still love the wizarding world, so I super feel you on that. I'm glad to provide! Just. You read the warning, right? With the exception of smoke and silvered glass and maybe black comedy, these are not what most people call....good. I cannot stress that enough, especially abandon. are you....really sure you want to use these to get back into hp?

I never really left, so I'm good <3 I've been trying to find old fics - like, from the early 2000s, and it's really hard. I think some of them went down with old archives, sigh sigh
