Dear Moffat: Eat My Ass
I'm rewatching Doctor Who for the first time since high school and honestly? I would like to extend a personal fuck you to Moffat for ruining this show for me, I'm having a great time. (Relatedly: superwholock can also eat my ass for being Like That, causing me to cringe away from the show long before it really ground itself into the ground) I'd forgotten how much fun this show is. There's a sweetness here, a light cheesiness and a pure joy that I had forgotten about. It's kinder, too, than I remember it being. It definitely hearkens back to an older style of scifi, an era before the grimdark revolution in storytelling.

For me, it's not even the over-clever nonsense that really got to me--although it was pretty annoying in its own right-- it's how under him, the show just got so much darker. Like, no, thank you very much, I want my goofy cheerful show back, what's all this... death and dying and mean bastard doctor nonsense, take it back.

Also his thing about having women meet the doctor as children and then be fixated and want to bang him when they grow up . . . Moffat, your icky misogynistic fantasies are showing.

But, yeah, the first couple of times he pulls the growing-up-to-Thirst thing I was willing to buy it? The Madame de Pompadour episode was weirdly charming, despite the structural flaws. And Amy actually had a character arc and grew out of her thirst. And then he just...kept using the same plot. Over and over.
(Also, personally, it's not moffat-specific, but the way that it was presented that falling in love with/wanting to bang the Doctor was basically inevitable if one was even remotely inclined towards men-shaped things was Super Annoying. I LIKE Rose, and even then it seemed like half the time she was just there to be in love with the doctor.)
