concept for a fic i will never write

You know how in fic we tend to assume that Cody like, genuinely cares for Obi-wan? That Cody likes him and worries about him and gets along well with him and trusts him, that they’re friends. What if that wasn’t the case? Sure, Cody’s loyal, but he’s loyal to the Republic and the GAR and the regs, mostly. On a personal level, he doesn’t much care about General Kenobi one way or another. He sees Kenobi as entirely too self-absorbed and frankly egotistical, always thinking he (and the council) knows best despite not being trained for war at all and getting a lot of brothers killed.

Meanwhile Obi-wan does actually care about Cody, very much. He cares about every single one of the clones very much, especially the 212^th, he hates getting them killed and he hates that they’re slaves and he wants to do right by them as best as he can, and he hates himself most of all for failing to be a Jedi in this (in everything). He thinks Cody is magnificent, and the fact that he knows for a fact that Cody sees him as an obstacle more than anything else does not in any way stop him from falling in love because Obi-wan is, frankly, a disaster of a human.
